first impression of integration of rome in helma: dates are being truncated (hours, minutes and seconds are missing, ie. zero); atom feeds are a pain in the neck (many simply are not well-formed, others cause a parsing error, e.g. the googleblog feed due to some strange <st1:place> tags inside a content element).

parsing rss is kind of a desperate task.

have you tried apache commons feedparser? i know neither rome nor feedparser, but i can imagine both being too "intolerant" in what they accept ... compared to what's out there in rss- and atom-world

to me as a java airhead the feedparser with its unsexy (pun alert) sax approach looks more complicated than the way it'S done in rome. but thanks for the hint, anyway. so far old uncle parss is harvesting again, now with rome support. and the date bug hopefully will get fixed, soon.

in terms of tolerance mark pilgrim's ultraliberal feedparser probably is the best choice – if there just was a python switch in helma... or is there?

jython als normale java-library in helma einzubinden ist sicher leicht möglich, als rhino replacement nicht. DAS HEISST DAS INTERFACE, mit dem du jython einbetten würdest wäre im wesentlichen dieses hier. Ich weiss allerdings nicht, inwieweit jython die standard-python-classlibs implementiert, also inwieweit der feedparser unter jython out-of-the-box rennt. PS: stefan rinner war zuletzt noch mit rome recht zufrieden, würd mich interessieren ob's bei ihm besser läuft oder er einfach noch nicht so viel getestet hat.

danke für den tipp. allerdings ist der bug in rome angeblich schon gefixt, und ich kann sonst eh nicht klagen (abgesehen von der syntaktischen strenge, da halt rss mehr mit html zu tun hat als den xml-leuten lieb sein wird). das mit jython mal auszuprobieren könnte aber auch so recht interessant sein...
