the most revealing fact in that at least partly made up conversX-thing ist that Alan and HAL get credit but not HAL's mother ELIZA, the grandmom of all chatbots.

true, a least a little reference would not be asked too much. i tend to think that eliza is credited all around, but the next generation coder boys might tend to consider it stupid old history and simply forget about it. on the other hand: is eliza not the perfect example to show that humans tend to attribute intelligence / reliability to the systems where there is actually none at all?

the last one is the interesting thing about eliza. those reactions are what made its creator reflect and publish on the topic. before eliza ai was naive. remember the largest project of all, the gps (general problem solver).
