telepolis: "24 Mitglieder der free software foundation wegen verstoßes gegen die windows-lizenzvereinbarung festgenommen".
smart article, especially the last paragraph. <g>
every time i mis-spell a url the way that it is not existent, internet explorer sends a request like
auto.search.msn.com?
to microsoft. i really don't like the idea that all those urls are sent to microsoft. i don't like the feeling that i don't even have any control over what is sent to this server. and i assume this must be an extraordinary server log-file. scary.
does anybody know more about this? i only found this message in the vulnerability development mailing list web archive, but i think this must be already a sufficiently discussed issue...
update: now i know at least how to disable the whole autosearch fucktionality. i activated(!) the radio button "just display the results in the main window" (the last but one element in the internet option's advanced tab).
chris has found a cool quick reference for choosing a free software license.

phew, a first version of the report about my adventures with netbsd/mac68k is online... curious if i might get some feedback on this one.
unfortunately, i was very lazy keeping all details on a piece of paper or at least in my mind. so i had to write down a lot from memory and i hope i did not forget anything important. i am not sure whether the text contains bold errors but at least i stepped through many parts of the description myself again where i could.
a nice side product is the macintosh keyboard comparison chart for use when suddenly the ä key prints double quotes (or vice versa).
davenet: "google upgrades the web".
"quietly, without much fanfare, google is upgrading the web. they're indexing lots of weblogs, including scripting news, every day. i've been asking for this feature since 1996!"
who was it again, blocking google from all of his servers?
getting ready for the euro: train yourself coping with the new currency using this set of rubber stamps with reproductions of euro coins and notes.
à propos stamps: i recently wondered what will happen with all those european postage stamps. and really, they will be exchanged completely with euro stamps sooner or later... does that mean a lot of these tiny valuta pieces will increase in value?
la poste française publishes a "gaston lagaffe" stamp. nice to meet you again, gaston!
"none of this software may be downloaded or otherwise exported or re-exported into (or to a national or resident of) cuba, iraq, libya, sudan, north korea, iran, syria or any other country to which the u.s. has embargoed goods". from the netbsd distribution license.
