i prefer reading magazines when they are available as print: most of their online siblings are really crappy (especially de:bug and der spiegel). that's as far as i can support arne boecker's memento (and that's as far as i can link to le sofa blog).

good online journalism is scarce, but maybe weblogs were born out of quite a different idea. means: "the net is not a journalistic medium" only if a few weblogs do make the whole net. but that is crap just like most of the puns in that epic statement. understanding media today means understanding that there is way enough space for the individual and that every peculiarity is just one of an infinite number of niches in the web (commercial sites are no exception).

weblogs about "red haired women", "the disappearing of boredom" or "myanmar" (whatever it might be) are easy to imagine. maybe they are already somewhere out there (i suggest only the "tappsys" blog has to be created, yet). one just has to find them. and that's again a reason for weblogs to exist. because they can help searching. they are here. but they are hard to see if one still is looking into the bright flashes of mass media myth. blog is pop popo is a blog!

there is help helping blogger: hannes already has a working paypal account and offers to use it for local bloggers who do not want to go through the paynful registering process or who own a mastercard. just mail to hannes and let him know how much you want to pay and how he is getting the cash from you in return.

btw: the first of the two new servers is already there – meg, matt and helge schneider with their new linux box. speed is just around the corner.

christine zmönig's articles gain some momentum in the web world: tim orchard mills refers to "skip intro" in his research project's bibliography about "authoring and design". quintus.org once included a link to the same article in their list of sites about flash usability (i just wonder why they removed it later). and even philosopher's are happy to link to "copyright or the right to copy?" when it's about locke and intellectual property. greetings to london, it was nice to talk!

"due to changes we are making to our site, we are currently unable to process your mastercard registration. we expect to have this functionality fixed by the first week of january. we apologize for the inconvenience." – how grrrrreat! this way i cannot help blogger funding their money! paypal is really cool but this turns me off completely.

of all people brian eno, this pothead esoterix, has to promote the internet free day on january 28 because "the real world needs you". i'd rather follow the more tolerant sw/oc attitude or, as hannes suggested, invite for a day offline already on the 27th making the participants not wanting to stay netless the next day, too.

ok, i did know about the helma cvs, i even worked with it already. however, it is the immense kindness of hannes "the helmahead" wallnöfer that i seem to be the author of all that terrific code making helma.org work. i just touched very few parts there. more of my fingerprints are rather to be found in the hop reference section (there's something there already, but i'll keep those hopsters just hangin' on...).

that old lady called usability (aka iso 9241)...

google: ben shneiderman, human computer interface, mensch maschine schnittstelle.

yuck! i got a scary spam mail! it was sent from A5ee8.pppool.de (213.6.94.232) – not quite an innocent domain being ranked 90th in the top 100 sites identified by ultra/spam hippo of november 2000...

spam! spam! spam! the net abuse faq, the responsible net commerce resource center, the european coalition against unsolicited commercial email, blacklist of internet advertisers.

i will donate some bucks to the bloggers because blogger has got a real y2k+1 issue and i want it to be fixed. just like the strange german date format. what else? mmmooorrreee ssspppeeeddd!!!
