On my vacation I finished the first book of “The Three-Body Problem” by Liu Cixin. I am rocking back and forth between being entertained by its novel ideas and concepts and being bored by its all too obvious imitation of the storytelling in Gödel, Escher, Bach.
I don’t know if it really wants to be a “hard” science fiction novel or just a fairytale teaching some concepts of astrophysics, spatial dimensions and such.
And now I don’t know either, whether I should continue with the trilogy…
Anyway, at least I learnt about Rachel Carson’s “Silent Spring”, an environmental science book from 1962, documenting the adverse environmental effects caused by the indiscriminate use of pesticides.

Das oben Gesagte gilt auch für den Österreichischen Journalisten Club (ÖJC), dem die Marke Gatterer-Preis gehört und der sich mit dem Tamtam rund herum mediale Aufmerksamkeit verschafft und zwar gleich dreimal jedes Jahr: bei der Ausschreibung, bei der Bekanntgabe des Preisträgers und bei der Verleihung. Der ÖJC will mich laut Begründung der Jury ja „im gegenständlichen Fall“ auszeichnen für „Berichterstattung und Aufdeckung“ in der Causa Erl. Wo war dieser feine Club, als mir in genau dieser Causa achtzehn Zivilklagen mit einem Streitwert jenseits der fünf-, sechs-, siebenhunderttausend Euro zugestellt wurden? Ein klitzekleines bisschen Solidarität damals, ein Alzerl nur, ein Pipp oder von mir aus auch ein Papp wären mehr wert gewesen, als der Zinnober mit dem Gatterer-Preis. Von einem Journalisten-Club, der mich als Journalisten ansieht, wäre vielleicht zu erwarten, dass er sich angesichts einer solchen Klagsflut zumindest räuspert, wenn schon nicht äußert.
