the good book.
steven d. levitt and stephen j. dubner: freakonomics.
just for the record.
office humor: röschenhof, hohe warte (both via euroranch notes).
"stetson kennedy has spent the majority of his life fighting for human rights in the deep south of The United States, Crusading for human rights, fighting the Jim Crow laws and helping equality take hold."
theodore kaczynski: "Industrial Society and Its Future" (aka "the unabomber manifesto").
mixing code with markup is not a good thing or: Why the light has gone out on LAMP.
word of the day: hechescher* (via supatyp). * or: hekhsher.
respect, helpfulness, sharing, community, caring, trust and unselfishness finally pay off.
regarding o'reilly and the web 2.0 trademark case i rather feel more and more suspicious about another profitable company (providing a product i really like) emphasizing so strongly on idealism, ethics and humanism ie. attributes i acknowledge to be good and meaningful by using the african word ubuntu.
well, the web 2.0 fiasco is a lesson in (or at least a reminder of) needless naivety.
whit monday.
possibly, "whit" could have quite an interesting etymology leading to "wight" which originates from the swedish word vätte meaning "spirit of the earth, gnome"...
could have because in fact (or rather: according to wikipedia) it comes from white "in reference to the white robes worn by those baptized on the previous Easter".
the avantgarde of 1990's graphic design class and its problematic attitude towards, struggle with and misinterpretation of the web becomes manifest with redesigns like (for example) the one of emigre (via kottke).
of course, there are similar examples much closer at hand but due to some "intuitive" expectations for a mid-term time frame the benefit of doubt is big enough for some more patience.
