yes, but this time returning the dishevelled yellow dog to its greedy and uncommunicative owners and inviting that friendly guy called ubuntu in my modest mud hut.
not to say that everything went smoother, heck no: i still needed a patch for ibook's reliable slumber (although a pretty simple one), and certainly there are some minor annoying issues here, too.
nevertheless, sound worked out of the box and just intuitively, this distribution has a much cleaner and easier look & feel. (obviously i prefer gnome to kde.)
you certainly shouldn't consider switching to the mac if you are happy with windows and aren't much affected by viruses and spyware.
for the frequent zeit and wallpaper and sz readers it might be already familiar but i just returned from the viennissage of ostmoderne and i am happy that this project gets the attention it deserves.

what's an ibook's worth without sound and without sleep?

on startup the sound server alerts an "error while initializing the sound driver: SNDCTL_DSP_SETFMT failed - invalid argument".
and when i put the ibook to sleep mode it does not wake up anymore (well, at least it remains somewhat paralyzed).
version 4.0.1 is just out and it promises "finally, your laptop can get some sleep"... perky marketing or a bad joke?
