horst prillinger: the vienna metro system (via rinner.st).

bashing the usual institutional crap.

today: typo berlin.

why do they have such a bad website? (did i get it right, this is a conference about "information"?) why are the designers bloody pop-stars? ("who needs the moon when we've got the stars?") why does the audience have to queue like lemmings at the cliffs? (reminds me on assembly hall at school) why is the documentation so, uhm, frugal? (is this a pun on the motto "information"?)

please, all you graphic designer's out there, could anyone tell me why masses of your kind spend a load of money and pour into a conference that appears to be so unchallenging and discouraging (concerning graphic design!), so far apart from where your heart is (or i think it should be) and moreover like a rewarmed infusion of last year's event?

just for the party? just to meet somebody you already know and to feel something you already felt before? or at least to feel the spirit of germany's poorest city? (you certainly did not come to berlin to get employed, did you?)

where do you go from here?

perhaps you might need some more mediensalat...? (which is not meant to be a shameless self-promotion but a demand for a more deliberate, a grassroots event culture).

btw. did you talk about politics, too?

just visiting this planet.

haugi, i think i never said thank you appropriately for the nice book you gave to me the last time i have been in berlin: the 100 meisterwerke of world literature are marvellous. thank you! i hope we'll meet again, soon...

and the mogamobo website is worth a look. it's always good to find people who obviously do their thang because they love it.

btw. another pretty new article about the current situation of "total draft dodgers" in germany.

my favourite cd at the moment: “mickey katz: simcha time – mickey katz plays music for weddings, bar mitzvahs, & brisses”.

01 Simcha Time (audio/mpeg, 3,280 KB)

mickey katz was a great comedian and musician. his parodies of popular songs of his time are hilarious ("that's morris"). or just think of titles like "schlepping my baby back home", "borscht riders in the sky" or "don't let the schmalz get in your eyes" to already get a glimpse of his anarchistic humor.

he always gathered excellent musicians in his groups, that's why it's exciting to listen to his songs without any comical connotations, too.

almost in every piece the band switches into some very kletzmerish interlude that sometimes sounds a little bit like the fanfare groups of eastern europe (e.g. fanfare giocarlia or taraf de haïdouk).

kudos to cornelius who dared to play the record at his good-bye party. see you in enns!

michael bujatti-narbeshuber (department of archeobiology and anthropology, natural history museum, vienna, austria): "meta-meme rituals teleonomically change meme-rituals and a gene-ritual: syntactic symbol conditioned 5-ht/na socio-neuro- modulation in culture-cult co-evolution: double niche transition-theory of homo, xl" (from the abstracts of ess moscow annual meeting 1998).

does that refer to a theory connecting stone-age cannibalism with today's psychosomatic traumata? (actually, that's what i was looking for...).

not really related to but it falls into the same category: fwf wissenschaftsfonds österreich.

revising prejudices about "metalheadz" pt iii: sodom – "aber bitte mit sahne" (thanks, innocentx).

boards of canada again: on the official website they created some tiny experiments in sound. to the music of da boards one can either float across 3d-rendered islands (exploring different tracks of a song by navigating to certain points distributed on the geometric shape of the island) or rollover caleidoscopes to influence the more ethereal tunes.

obviously, 3d works well with sound.

klaus makotter did something really cool: he gave a weblog to each of his colleagues at gpk, the company he is employed at. and i am sure these weblogs will be maintained much more carefully than those at other companies. they have the by far better concept and realisation (and urls :)

now let's see what google can do!
