asleep at the switch.

switching from ubuntu to gentoo on my old g3 ibook2 since gnome was rendered unusable after upgrade to the so-called intrepid (or rather illicit, obviously) ibex.

moreover, the gui always started in low graphics mode and i finally decided to not fix ubuntu one more time for the ibook. (of all the upgrades only the one to 8.04 did not require some bothersome fiddling around with features that already worked in the previous release).

well, of course i am aware of canonical discontinuing support for the powerpc platform; fair enough but still a pity.

and of course i violated an important rule of computer maintenance which goes "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"... d'oh!

currently, gnome has been compiling for approx. 12 hours and i am curious about the result.

as you can see, i am seriously keen on running a modern, fast and stable linux on that old laptop.
