If you want to version and/or share your stuff but you are afraid of the big corporate silos (and rightly so) I would like to recommend to you SparkleShare from my heart.

It’s free, open source, self-hosted and quite easy to set up. You might need some (or someone with) server experience for the self-hosting part but besides that it works like the other folder sharing services by dragging and dropping files on your desktop.

An inspiring piece of software especially for those people, who are not into version control and other magical geekery.
