Bitchcoin.

Out of curiosity and to better understand the recent cryptocurrency craze I started to mine dogecoins.

First, I installed the +scrypt variant of cgminer via MacPorts (you need version 3.7.2, the last one being able to mine via GPU/scrypt – you can read how to install an older version of a port at the official MacPorts site).

Then I registered an account at doge.gentoomen.org – which unfortunately ceased to exist not even 12 hours later…

So I checked out some other doge mining pools and currently use doge.coinium.org – there is a good getting started guide for the whole setup process.

For now I am mining ahead at a speed of approx. 7 Kh/s average and looking forward to earn my first dogecoin – if ever…

Update: Halted the mining process after approx. 20 hours due to the noise and heat emerging from the laptop. In fact, I seem to have some confirmed dogecoins now, estimated worth 0,00001 € or something, but I gained a lot of insights to the whacky, parallel existence of cryptocurrencies.
