How I finally managed to change Android’s owner (“me”) account.

1. Delete all data of the Google+, Contacts and Contacts Storage apps on the device
2. Remove all of your own accounts from any circles or contacts at https://contacts.google.com
3. Resolve any duplicates
4. Resync the device and start the Google+ app
