chris has a cool new layout and bill has a cool new browser for the mac (thanks, hannes!).
"the first web outliner", pike is there and it is good! i am just not used to outliners very well (i hope i will be, soon). but it's a great tool to write structured texts like html or weblogs...
btw: pike is the name for a version of frontier that hides a lot of the technical features and emphasizes on the writing part. but you can see that it's frontier, when an error occurs.
today is moving day! the office the architects share with helma and me is moving to a lower level. well, actually we are all still moving higher and higher, but that's more a mental kind of thang.

i recommend tim berners-lee's "weaving the web" to all of those wanky politicians making efforts to regulate the net these days. i know, i know, they don't listen to microserfs like me...
however, it is great to read the story of the person who is referenced to as the inventor of the web. now i understand the difference between uri and url and why the web as it is today is incomplete from berners-lee's point of view (which i share).
how about a reconstruction of the www in the name of the uri? persistance rules ok!
btw: i am glad that women like nicola pellow played important roles in the evolution of the web.

crash, navigator, crash! i hardly can wait to get the mac version of internet explorer 5. a colleague extensively tested the beta and is convinced that this browser will be a redemption for all netscape users under the (meanwhile) red apple. yet, the mac browsers are a reason to favour surfing with windows. (what about linux? something better than netscape? uh-oh...)
okay, mozilla.org probably is close to a final release of version 5+1. but i did not get the impression that this will be a stable browser for the mac. praise xul, but it's the time that i prefer reliability rather than another buggy-wuggy feature-shmeature. i've had enough of this just recently.
the browser war is over, and explorer has won.

a few days ago on the mailing-list of firsttuesday's viennese version someone wrote that he was disappointed from that event. he missed the "nerds and geeks with birkenstocks" and compared the night at the semperdepot to an assembly of "slicky bankers".
glad someone raised the voice i reacted happily with consent but my message was blocked by the moderator – twice. that's how they cope with criticism in austria.
but i don't care because mon coeur toujours reste le même (where is that poor oe-ligature entity? no wonder french people neglect web-anglicisms).
