today is be-an-acronym-day! because london news is examining some acronyms i was looking for some sites about acronyms. acronym finder looks really crappy but seems to be quite powerful. at least i can find a lot of well-known people there: e.g. pimi, flo, pia, chris, babs, andi, arf, milli and tobi.

i accidently came across a tv report about a new austrian movie called heller als der mond (brighter than the moon). it was a very positive recommendation and the excerpts shown were promising. the characters seem to have jumped out of a kaurismäki story and the scenery is minimalistic as can be. and that is not primarily because of the low budget. the makers learnt their film history lesson well. the overall plot is about being a stranger, being in strange places. something you cannot tell the people about often enough. especially at the moment in austria.

i assume with the helma object publisher (hop) i could do things like wiki, too. i installed hop on a mac and everything went smoothly and with ease. great job, hannes!

i am thinking of adding a revision control system on the wiki backend...

when i hear the word "wickie" in austria at the moment i rather think of yet another psychological mass phenomenon than of some cool software idea. but exceptionally i am wrong here in many ways.

first of all, the word in question is spelled "wiki" and i assume it originates from the anglo-american language. and it is in fact the name of a weird hypertext system. wiki brings back the editor to the world wide web, something tim berners-lee never considered as an option but as an unalterable quality of his invention. take that, suits!

on my way through this site (which i already got to know browsing for references on extreme programming) i found a good old buddy going wiki as zwiki.

i found out about all of this because i got to know a wiki expert via weblogging: christian langreiter adapted wiki to work with rebol and calls his baby vanilla. i just installed vanilla and was not disappointed. vanilla is a flavor you can rely on: simple and seductive.

feels like a i peeped through a keyhole into a new little universe.

i am not a very good talker. that's why i am writing in furry english here. however, today i was interviewed by the adolescent part of austrian public broadcast, radio station fm4 (my biggest problem is always to get a low and impressive voice when speaking into a mike. this time i think i succeeded).

along with irene, a media artist (btw: she is host at audio inn tonight), and tom, a 21 year old entrepreneur newbie, we were talking about the "new business" and future aspects of the internet – well, as far as it was possible. i mean: whatcha gonna say in between 10 minutes?

at least i mentioned weblogs (the word, not more. so what). and the cluetrain manifesto (some quotes out of the 95 theses).

we did not speak about social circumstances of this new media ipo madness; not about politicians dissing their young and future voters as "the internet generation romping in the streets". and not about software patents, etoy vs. etoys and web culture. i wish we could make good for something and tie up to those topics someday and somewhere. in a more cozy and relaxed atmosphere. and having a lot more of time.

two nice things came into my mind listening to the others: when irene talked about her past in the lofts of new york working on projects with as little money as there was to get and later returning there finding "silicon alley" and her mates being ipodelics, i invented a new comparatives of "broke": "broker".

and this is what i from now on will reply to people asking me what a weblog is: a weblog is the answer of free individual thought to institutional mass media. welcome back, my dignity!

an article about weblogs and blogger in belgian newspaper de standaard. the dutch weblog scene is quite boiling, the rest of europa is rather luke warm.

on the weblogs list there is some political discussion going on ("if your 'blog tilts left..."). the bigger picture is global politics from davos to seattle. monkeyfist blogs these issues.

reading through the posts i was reminded that dave winer was behind the security fences, face to face with the demonstrators in davos...
