rainer's link today (actually from yesterday): petition to save "clarus" the apple dogcow.

better than lsd: "die christen-front für tugend, sitte und moral" ("front of christians pro virtue, ethics and moral"). my fellow colleagues spent their whole spare time on this site yesterday laughing non-stop. html from hell.

in modern internet times the saying "nobody knows you when you're down" has quite a more profound meaning than anytime before...

telepolis: "computerspiele-museum berlin geschlossen" - how about a fund for that?

"the dock must go. completely. it is a total failure and will continue to embarrass apple for as long as it is around." – bruce tognazzini: "top 10 reasons the apple dock sucks"

liquid.org has some more points to make about the dock. when did i hear "liquid information" the last time? i think it was th– mmmh, chocolate!

this surreal and quite disturbing interactive story is the official website of the movie "requiem for a dream" – another link that made yesterday too exciting to cleave with sw/oc. the movie was playing in the states end of last year (and will be in austrian cinemas 2002, if we are lucky), imdb already has quite a huge collection of reviews. the story is based on the novel by hubert selby jr. salon.com held some conversation with that "kafka lost in la-la land".

ooh, this is the best netdyslexia so far! arfco3000 did not promise too much – the net pistols are back and they brought a good old friend called punk along. congrats. how wicked!

another example why the "culture" channel of orf on is worst of the worst: "schöne neue tagebuchwelt" ("brave new diary world"), an article about weblogs(!) in the states (the usual suspects including the well-known tools) and germany (two sites i am not familiar with).

what do we learn from this? from the media monopolist's point of view austria has no weblogs at all (at least to mention) and most weblogs are "home made media weeds" owned by "exhibitionist nerds" where "important pages" have to "stand out, ideally". the usual one-way hierarchy and the traditional myth of celebrity. whether the connotation of "mycel" is a mix-up with the term "rhizom" or simply a parody i don't know and i am not sure if i really want to. funny is that kultur.orf.at seems not to recognize fm4.orf.at (which claims to be a weblog) or the very good report about weblogs at matrix.orf.at...

it was the second time i sent a complaint to kultur.orf.at and probably the fifth time i ever complained via e-mail. although i am very good in complaining, generally.

this old concept of mirror sites in combination with open source... that's exactly what we need to prevent web applications going down the shitshoot. open your web app to other developers and let it run on other servers, too. distribute the product and distribute the traffic. share your scripts and spare your money. dare it. the next idea is just around the corner. no reason to bunker this one.

hannes pointed me to jack saturn's latest postings on saturn.org. yes, this is still and again about blogger since jack is now a former member of pyra. besides the different view one gets about the whole mess that's supposed to be there sooner or later, i feel two very important thoughts manifesting more and more:

  1. i respect npo's (non-profit organizations) more than ipo's.
  2. i should respect free services more than paying for patents (even more than i did).
me too, "i am disappointed about the economy" (quite for a long time, to be precise). more disappointed than i ever was of the technical shortcomings of blogger, for instance. that's why i never flamed the blogger team and that's why i contempt those who did. and, maybe tragically, this is why the give-away people will never accept any expectations from their community (quite contrary: they justly expect that you put your heads together and your hands on the fabric in return). not to mention they would ever meet those sometimes incredibly exaggerated demands. hello, remember helma?

however, my belief that i can make a living and "waste" time and energy in projects that give me (and probably also you) a lot of headaches and no income (ie. bucks) at all is yet unbroken. perhaps a consequence of this technical invention and the evolution of my personality in the jelly of society i am embedded in. for now i am sure i can do it the way so many people struggled for and miserably failed. i have proven this to myself with quite a bunch of projects, last one being popo.at.

reclaimer: mr check is a service helping to better understand german online texts. by selecting a term and clicking on the "mr check button" a window pops up and hopefully gives some explanation or further information about it. such an excellent idea (with such a ridiculous name)! but wait: just one inch beneath the bottom of the window it says: patents pending. makes me wanna throw up on the feet of mr check's boss.

i also would like to provide a dictionary that works the same way but is for free and invites the readers to participate. probably free of content, to be filled by other users just with what they want to communicate. and i cannot (can i?) do this when somebody else owns a patent for this simple idea (and for the sake of synchronicity i spare myself pointing out that it came to my mind before i met mr check)...
