strange, in the last time i got more and more confused about <a href="#"> tags... they are mainly used when there are other javascript handlers involved as tag parameters (e.g. <a href="#" onclick="alert('duh!');">). not every, but many browsers certainly will execute the javascript, however often scroll up to the top of a page which is sometimes really annoying. this can be avoided by 3 alternative approaches:

  1. putting the javascript command inside the href parameter: <a href="javascript:alert('duh!');">
  2. using the void() function instead of the hash: <a href="javascript:void(0);" onclick="alert('duh!');">
  3. creating a function called nothing() (or the like) with an empty function body and using this instead of the hash: <a href="javascript:nothing();" onclick="alert('duh!');"> (recommended for older browsers).

the first recorded impressions of mediensalat are available as quicktime movies. and torsten grünwald made the beautiful pictures he took at the event available online.

today is via-day: john maeda's designing by graphics (via partykeller). the examples [1, 2, 3, 4] bring some light into structure and syntax of a dbn program.

i agree, the human genome browser gateway could affect graphic design for the next decade... (via webdev).

hey, music industry! currently i am napstering all the tracks from yonderboi's album "shallow & profound" (which i found via le sofa blogger). closing-down sale download... duh!

no answer from petrograd (4.3mb mp3).

yonderboi on tour: 02.03. budapest, pecsa (w/ red snapper; to be confirmed), 10.03. budapest, tütü bánya / butik - érted (to be confirmed), 04.03. debrecen, lovarda

i just noticed this cool google feature: since google also indexes pdf files it provides a text version of it that can be read without the acrobat plug-in. an example that looks like raindrops are falling down the page: retrievals within an unified all-weather ocean algorithm.

missed your plane? maybe for good: flugzeug-absturz.de.

i miss the entry of february 23, 1989, when a "commander ac-90" of rheintalflug airlines crashes near rohrschach into lake constance killing austrian minister of labour alfred dallinger and 10 other people.

michael kaspar has some very nice approaches towards web-savvy typography and embeds flash in a way i do not consider it very disturbing. he is the author of upuauet, a very fine ressource about designing the web. among other profound opinions there is also a good article about "flash kontra html" (in german).

the book section contains very interesting books (e.g. "hypergraphics") but also a big no-no: amazon.de links and affiliate program. ...start typing noamazon!

piefke, where the hell have you been? piefke is dead. long live piefke!

apologies for not mentioning the best event that happened so far this year still young at heart. i was in bielefeld, the center of ost-westfalen, and met wonderful people at (or: in the) mediensalat. i still grasp for words to describe what has happened there. but one thing is for sure: nothing will be as it was. big deal, huh?

anyway, big hugs and thanks go out for the hosts and organisators tibor bogun and christian terbeck. respect for their vision, courage and talents. you made it really happen. now enjoy your spare time and glance at your first-grade diploma, will you?!
