austrian weblog on politics popo.at is among the candidates to be voted for as best austrian website... how strange – but terrific as well.
the award is presented by e-media which is a quite brandnew magazine about "internet, computer und handy" for john sixpack. and although i never read it, i think it's trashy. c'mon, the site is made with frames!
thank you hannes for the nice congrats. i am just always in doubt with those awards: how can they claim to choose the best austrian site? i have never authorized them and neither did most of us. what is the quality of such a competition? as hannes wrote: "einem geschenkten link schaut man nicht ins maul" – that's for sure.
why does this sound as unsophisticated as a governmental youth employment program? "new media for everyone! bringing a new world in motion! thrilled about economies of scale!" (yawn...).

it's 3:16 pm and i've just created the final so-called "golden master" cd-rom of ribingu rumu! gosh, the project started in march 1999... holy moly. however, i am free at last!
i did the lingo programming and i swear another time that i will never program in lingo again. this time it's for sure, i promise to myself (well, at least concerning cd-roms). shit, i am already making concessions again!
cd-roms suck because i have to be so bloody careful with everything – re-checking any functionality or content ten times. because when it is produced i cannot change it anymore and a spelling mistake becomes an ever-lasting memento. yuck, this way of old-fashioned traditional publishing! i am sick of it.

for a satisfying communication with a system like wiki and her sisters (well, actually for all kinds of open dialogues) a few things are definitely indispensable: discussion culture, self-criticism, pluckiness and honesty are among them. but probably most important is to pit oneself against the forces of wiki's nature – er, i mean: to put up with the consequences of free editing.
eradicative deletion is bloody easy (and bloody, bloody stupid, no doubt) with those tools: everybody can do it anonymously and someone always will (think of murphy!) – whether it might be to adjust history or simply for the means of destruction.
but hey! this is the most interesting part of the wiki concept! sure it would be possible to reduce such risks e.g. by obligatory membership or by implementing a cvs behind it (a weird idea anyway?). but if the tension is taken away self-organization will be irrelevant. why using wiki then at all? just be aware of it and of your wildest expectations coming true – you won't fail.
see, even the big boys have been struck by tricky wikiness.
a description of document mode which can be useful to summarize a thread (instead deleting it) avoiding it to e.g. completely turn into a meaningless flame-war. become a wiki master, boy!
never have seen so much flash crap in one place... i certainly do like flash but one gotta be skilled or aware of the basic demands of design to do good flash or anything else creative. dogma! dogma! dogma!
